[movies]Super Mario World - Xbox emulated run in 0:10:47 - Andrew McKinlay - Andrew McKinlay
Speed run of Super Mario World done on xsnes9x Super Nintendo emulator for Xbox, does not count as official record for SMW. Author's comments: This run was extremely lucky in two areas, 1. That i didn't die by that stupid stump thing in the first castle. 2. That i didn't choke on that lame water level like i always do. I'm never going to play this game ever again, as I officially became a complete loser this summer having played this game waaaaaay too much...

[NB - this video was transferred from the Machinima collection, and uses different rules to the other speeds runs in this collection, including use of emulators and multiple save states.] Another example of the pre-history of machinima - players bragging about their impressive performances to other players. This roughly 17-minute run through the NES's Metroid demonstrates the fastest path through the game. Please note: These speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options a...

[movies]God of War (PS2) Speed Run (2:50)
Speed Run of Playstation 2's "God of War" By: Prism Completed October 1, 2005 17 segments You'll see me do two things many, many times throughout the run: roll-cancel and saw. Roll-canceling is when you roll, then do an action (like hit square), but then roll again before it gets started. Doing this lets Kratos travel across the ground much faster than walking. A varation of this is roll->R2 (dash)->(repeat); this has the added benefit of letting you steer Kratos during the dash move...

[movies]Aladdin - 16:54 (US version, emulated run) - Drew Sears (aka. milquetoast).
This is the authors second version of the run which is 14 seconds faster than the first. The majority of improvements come from the log stage and the fight against Jafar. The author also managed to find extra places to avoid swinging and boucning, and took some damage to save time. The run (ab)uses the "parachute trick" to move faster.

Here's my Rad Gravity run. I must give thanks to Spoony Bard. Without his first version, I would never have been motivated enough to make this run. My general route is basically the same, but with lots of optimizations in each level. I discovered that the disk that allows you to fly isn't actually neccesary. However, it does allow for a nice shortcut. I only need to use it once, so I only get two energy tanks (it costs two full energy tanks to use it)...

[movies]Contra (NES) - 09:34 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto)
Trivia: This game was released as Probotector in Europe with slightly modified graphics. It is also known as GryZor on some other systems. It's the guy who has infinite supply of ammo and who destroys worlds bare-chested. Here we have Genisto again doing what nobody could have seen coming. This updated movie demonstrates very well how important accuracy can be (by being half a minute faster than the previous version).

This TAS consumes only three torches and collects only one of the six items required by the Sphinx but still manages to beat the game. [movies]Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3) (NES) - 25:57 (Japan version, emulated speedrun) - Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto)
This is the story of Dracula's curse from the times before the first Castlevania game. The original name of the game is 悪魔城伝説. Technically, this game has a really high quality soundtrack - mostly because it uses a VRC6 chip that the Nintendo of America considered too expensive to include in the game cart. That's why the movie was made for the Japanese version instead of the USA version. (No, it still isn't SNES quality yet - don't be disappointed.) This movie is interesting, because th...

I was wrong.. After that everything went fine and thus I'm ready with a new version :P I didn't got stuck for hours trying to perform a single fall-through. [movies]Castlevania (NES) - 11:43 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Phil Côté and Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto)
This is Genisto's and Phil's joint effort at Castlevania. Also features a higher final score. This movie uses several techniques for speed: * Abusing monsters as a platform for shortcuts * Optimized usage of weapons * Luck abuse for items (Ⅱ and Ⅲ) ― nearly impossible to duplicate * Abusing the main character as a critical hit weapon at bosses * Using bottles to restrain and pass through enemies And standard optimizations such as not using stairs when jumping is possible.

You play as this family who must retrieve four crowns in order to obtain the dragon slayer (a sword) and then kill that evil dragon. Each family member has it's own area in this huge game and they can use different items. This opens up for some route planning since they sort of must complete their own area. Here it is, Kid Chameleon for the Genesis - probably the game with the most submissions of which none have been published. In retrospect, I can admit that it was fair to reject my previous submission - this one is more than a minute faster. I never expected it could be improved that much. [movies]Rygar (NES) - 21:07 (Europe version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This timeattack is different from the other Rygar timeattack in that it plays all levels and doesn't use the boss-warp glitch. Unlike the previous versions of the full (ie. deathless) run, this one makes full use of all the bugs and glitches in the game which can be used to speed up the run. Note: Famtasia plays PAL games at NTSC speed, that is 16.7% too fast. Thus the AVI is significantly faster than the movie should actually be.

And what an awesome movie it is: it demonstrates as many glitches of the game as possible. Some of the glitches save time radically, some save a little of time, and some don't save time at all but just look cool.
